University Institute of Investigation in Latin American Studies
On the 10th July 2007, the Rectorate of the University of Alcalá (UAH), via the General Foundation at the University of Alcalá (FGUA), gave rise to the Institute of Latin American Studies (IELAT). The objective was to create an institution of excellence that conducts its activities in the areas of postgraduate formation, academic investigation, counseling, and studies in the area of Latin America. The Council of the governing body of the University of Alcalá celebrated the 25th September 2015 a unanimously approved transformation of IELAT to the University Institute of Investigation in Latin American Studies. Hereby, it was detached from the University of Alcalá. The acronyms of the University Institute of Investigation in Latin American Studies continue to be IELAT. The IELAT has as its objective to integrate the studies, courses, seminars and conferences that are realised about Latin America in UAH; and thereby converting into an academic centre of excellence in Spain and by extension in the European Union, specialised in the study and understanding of the reality of Latin America, as well as its relations with the European Union.
