UEVORA, the coordinating institution is located in the Alentejo region in Southern Portugal, the region in Europe that can boast the richest asset of granitic megalithic monuments being internationally renowned as the Iberian Mesopotamia.

UEVORA hosts Institute for Advanced Teaching and Research (IIFA) the Department in charge of the ARCHMATEMJMD whose mission is to combine and link teaching with research at the University of Évora. Promoting the intertwiened areas of different fields of knowledge and supporting the existing R & D units, IIFA aims to provide for further international advancement of the scientific culture at the University of Evora. IIFA supports and organizes all the procedures associated with advanced training programs, with regard to monitoring all procedures related to accreditation and processing procedures as well as integration of the students, promoting internationalization of advanced training and research at the university, supporting exchange of researchers and establishment of interinstitutional cooperation protocols, creating synergy between advanced training and available scientific capacity at the R & D units and contributing towards further rationalization and organization of the shared scientific structures used for scientific activity at the University of Évora. UEVORA also host the HERCULES Laboratory for The Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage whose members and directors (including the ARCHMAT Coordinator – Nick Schiavon) will be part of the ARCHMAT academic staff and that has recently won extensive funding from European sources such as ERASMUS+, FEDER/Portugal2020, InAlentejo 2013-207-QREN-FEDER programmes (see also Projects implemented by the Consortium section below) and is currently coordinating the ERIHS.pt – European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science – Portuguese Platform (formerly IPERION-CH.pt), with the participation of the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering and The National laboratory for Conservation and Restoration in Lisbon (Jose de Figueiredo Lab – Portuguese General Directorate for Cultural Heritage).
