Community Foundation of Puerto Rico

A community foundation is a public philanthropic entity within the non-governmental sector that responds to the different needs of a particular geographic area. As in other nonprofit organizations, the community foundations need the support from the public in general and, on occasions, from private foundations and government agencies. Like private foundations, community foundations also offer philanthropic contributions to other nonprofit entities. Since the source of financial support of the community foundations are so varied, the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) does not consider them as private foundations.
